  1. Oh, how awesome is this?? I have basil in my garden, but it’s crappy, stunted, not lush, and I don’t think it would make a good pesto at all. I’m jealous!

it really is lovely…we do this every year. I still have pesto in my freezer from last year, but since this years crop isn’t quite as big as last years it should all work out.

we have plans to get a big deep freezer and grow veggies for the whole year too. Currently we only supply ourselves with veggies for the growing season.

where do you live? I’m wondering why your basil isn’t nice…ours always grows like crazy. Climate really makes a difference. But we are pretty amateur in the garden…it’s not like we do anything special.

  3. I live in the mountains of British Columbia, Canada and our soil is SHITTY. Even with compost & mulch & topsoil, my basil is just crappy. It was crappy last year too. My dill, however, is doing very well.

I don’t have any basil!!!!!!!!!! I am jealous of both of you, Monica and WC….deer eat everything I plant. Seriously though, that is great looking basil and nice photography.

    Tina,
can you put a little fence around a garden area? we had tons of rabbits in our last location and kept them out with a very low-tech fence…of course deer are bigger and the fence would have to be considerably higher…but if you can grow lots of veggies the initial investment would be worth it…

our garden plots are shockingly small given how much we produce so fencing is not a big deal…

    good luck

I have actually thought of rigging up a net and draping it over a PVC pipe that I can bury in the middle of a garden plot. Then the plants would get sun and air. Not sure how to do that though. I always have ideas but never sure how to proceed with a plan!

ciao papa! thanks for stopping by…I thought the fettucine didn’t look so good!

Oh, this is SO wonderful. Nothing beats basil, garlic, pine nuts and olive oil. I’m also jealous of your garden.

Do you roast/brown the garlic or just throw it in as is?

  10. monicajane says:

garlic just as is…raw garlic is pretty key in my mind…nice strong flavor that way.

it is nice to roast the pine nuts, though I did not this time…
